Assess what information is needed to meet different investigational requirements

Identif potential investigation options to meet investigation requirements. These could be

  • Criminal
  • civil
  • commerical
  • disciplinary

Investigaiton options

  • overt
  • covert
  • direct
  • indirect

Determine the methodologies to be used or action to be taken or gather infromation during the investigation, for example

  • interviewing witnesses, suspects and other relecant people
  • locating witnesses, suspects and other relevant people
  • statement taking
  • through surveillance operations (overt or covert) and recording evidence
  • through desk research e.g. records, registers, datavases (paper-based or electronic)
  • test purchasing

Develop an investigation strategy and plan, including appropriate milestones, timescales, review points and measures of progress

You should consider the potential value and availability of informaiton to carry out investigation to meet its objectives

Compliance with relevant, laws, regulation and codes of practice, and organisational guidelines were appropriate

Establish the parameters of the investigation, which coudl be:-

  • financial
  • timescales
  • responsibiltiies
  • legal or regulatory
  • ethical
  • moral
  • influenced by initial investigaiton findings
