The ABI

The Association of British Investigators is endorsed by the Law Society of England and Wales and is an approved supplier for the Law Society of Scotland. It has been established since 1913 and upholds professional values within the industry.

Membership of the association shows that an individual has the requisite knowledge to competently act as a private investigator. It also sets a code of ethics for its members to uphold and be held accountable to. It is the kite market for standards that all professional investigators should aspire to.

To become a full member you need to have two full years’ experience as an investigator within the private sector. You will also need to be over 18 years old and UK based. Entry to the organisation may include background and financial checks into your suitability to join the organisation. You will also have to demonstrate your knowledge, usually at interview and will require two professional written signed references, usually from existing members of the association.

There are other levels of membership available including being an associate or overseas member. For further information about the organisation and instructions on how to join you should visit www.theabi.org.uk
